Tuition Benefits
The U.S. Military and Maryland National Guard offer tuition benefits to help active duty service members, veterans, and their families cover college costs.
Active Duty Military
If you are currently serving in the military, you may be eligible for funding offered through the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance program. You can find out if you’re eligible and how much assistance you may qualify for by checking with your Service.

Veterans Affairs Benefits
If you served on Active Duty, you might be eligible for the Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits. For example, the Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides financial support for educational and housing expenses to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.
An honorable discharge is required to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.

Maryland Army National Guard State Tuition Waiver (STW)
Maryland National Guard Members enrolled in an undergraduate program are eligible to receive a 50% reduction in tuition (up to 6 credits) regardless of class size, location, and the number of semester hours. Apply at least 10 days before the start of class using the MDARNG app and email.
State Tuition Assistance Reimbursement (STAR) Programs
Maryland National Guard Service Members enrolled as graduate, and undergraduate students can apply to be reimbursed for tuition and related fees. The initial cap on STAR is $8,500 per service member per year; however, this amount is subject to the availability of State funds. Apply at least 10 days before the start of class using the MDARNG app and email.
Spouses and Children of Service Members
If you are the spouse or child of a service member who is serving on active duty Title 10 orders in the paygrades of E1-E5, O1-O2, or W1-W2, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the Department of Defense for education, training, and/or the occupational license and credentials necessary for a portable career. You may also be eligible to have the service member’s Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits transferred to you.
