Karen Vanegas
Assistant Director of Financial Aid
-
Karen Vanegas earned her undergraduate degree at Mount Holyoke College and her Master’s degree from Trinity University. Her parents emigrated to the US from their war-torn county of El Salvador. She is a proud first-generation college graduate who views education as a powerful tool to obtain success and move your family forward. Karen served as an educator, academic advisor, and financial aid counselor. For Karen, one of her greatest accomplishments is helping her younger siblings obtain their college education. She hopes to inspire students at Johns Hopkins to believe in their potential, hold on to their dreams despite challenges, and kindly guide others to succeed.
Karen treasures Emily Dickinson’s words, “ Hope is the thing with feathers/That perches in the soul/And sings the tune without the words/And never stops at all.”
My Advice to Students: Believe in your potential, hold on to your dreams despite challenges, and kindly guide others to succeed.
